Kendall Kingscott were appointed by the school to bid to the EfA for funding under the Condition Improvement Fund to remodel dining and kitchen facilities that were split into three areas, all undersized for usage and in poor condition. We created a robust argument on safeguarding grounds, with the existing arrangement being in contravention of The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 limiting use. This issue was the primary focus of the submission with condition, H&S and wellbeing issue also being cited. The bid was successful in securing £500,000 for the Academy.
The project comprised the extensive remodelling of the existing dining and kitchen space to create one large open plan space capable of accommodating up to 275 pupils. The space has been designed to suit modern lifestyles with a cafe feel and four servery points to increase throughflow and therefore numbers of sittings. The kitchen has been relocated within the space allowing improvement to adjacencies and removing wider H&S issues, whilst allowing an outside space to be formed directly off the Dining Room for an external dining experience.
The works were carried out in a phased manner to enable continued use of the kitchen facility during term time, whilst the school used the Hall as a temporary Dining Room.
