Through our appointment on Cornwall Council’s Building Surveying Framework Kendall Kingscott were appointed to undertake an extensive programme of school fabric refurbishment, replacement and maintenance. To date, over the last 3 years, the value of works has exceeded £20m across more than 30 primary, junior and secondary school sites. The design and delivery task has required our team to work with client appointed consultants including mechanical and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and structural engineers.
A key challenge was to improve environmental conditions in the classrooms that lacked natural ventilation and were prone to overheating in summer. Thermal modelling coupled with judicious design and choice of material has transformed the learning and teaching conditions.
Many of the projects were carried out with buildings in occupation, requiring accurate phasing and well planned segregation particularly when undertaking elements such as asbestos removal
