The redevelopment of the former Chesterfield Hospital has created a new state of the art 40 bed hospital facility in the centre of the highly sensitive Clifton Conservation Area. This major new facility provides the very latest in minimally invasive surgery and advanced diagnostics. The new clinical block was developed on the footprint of the former 1930s ward block and provides 30 new ensuite inpatient bedrooms, a 3 bed Intensive Therapy Unit and a 7 bed day ward.
Part of the scheme requires the conservation of the Grade II* listed Clifton Court townhouse which was put back into use as a base for training and administrative support and consequently we were required to work closely with both English Heritage and Bristol City Council’s planning and conservation officers to develop a scheme which responds to the needs of the heritage and landscape assets of the site without dominating the functional needs of a 21st century hospital facility.
The project is designed to achieve BREEAM Very Good.
